Penrith is a major metropolitan centre approximately 50km west of Sydney city. It is home to the sixth largest population in NSW with the latest census data revealing a population exceeding 175,000.

Penrith Valley enjoys a climate of relatively mild winters (6-17°c) and warm to hot summers (16-40°c). Average rainfall for the region ranges from 138mm over the winter months, to 283mm during the summer.
